RENGAPRABHATH CHILDREN’S THEATRE
The rengaprabhath children’s theatre, which has completed three decades of service, has been hailed as an experiment of great significance. The initiative was the realization of the dream of a team of personalities, teacher and writers, who felt that appropriate and serious steps be taken to involve children in meaningful educational and relational and recreational activities, which will enhance their skills and confidence.
The experiment which began under the general guidance and support of the doyen of the Malayalam theatre, Prof .G.Sankara pillai, was ably sustained with missionary zeal and dedication by its Founder-president sri k. kochunarayana pillai,sainty teacher, sir pillai himself a distinguished teacher,acorand artist of greatprpute.A devoted and saintly teacher, sri. Pillai who breathed his last in the midst of his theatre activities on 1st October 2007 was hailed a guru in the traditional sense. his life dedicated to the welfare of children, promotion of children’s theatre ,propagation of the theatre of the soil concept dear to his mentor prof.G.Sankaapillai have become the focus of the activities of rengaprabhath now. It is now a community centre of a lot of meaningful activities. It has invited both national and international recognition for the innovative method it adopt to attract the children and offer them a package of education programmes, which sustain their interests, not only in academic activities but also in skill development programmes.
The theatre, which began in 1970 with less than 40 children, gradually attracted the attention of their parents and educational experts so much so, over the years it has become a community experiment in which parents, their children and the workers ofrengaprabhth work together in order to discover their talents, understand themselves and their surroundings, so that they grow into responsible adults. The programmes of rengaprabhath aim at helping the children discover their talent, capabilities which could go a long way in shaping their attitude to life, enrich their personality
